DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING
-
Plan your journey and allow extra time.
- Keep a blanket, torch, water and charged mobile phone in the car with you.
- Keep your distance, it takes twice as long to stop in wet conditions.
- Make sure your headlights are on and working properly.
- If water makes your steering unresponsive, don’t brake – slow down gradually.
- Surface water may be deeper than you think. If in doubt, don’t drive through it.

FLOODING ADVICE
Don’t cross floods on foot. Water that looks shallow may be moving fast and could sweep you off your feet. There may be hidden dangers such as open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris or deep channels which could cause serious injury.

Don’t allow children to play near flood water – it may be contaminated with sewage or chemicals.

Check in with your neighbours and make sure they’re OK.

Switch power off if appliances are at risk of flooding.

If you come into contact with flood water, make sure you wash your hands afterwards.

Keep your radio tuned in to 106.5 The Severn for the latest weather updates every thirty minutes throughout the day.
